Informative Graphics Corp.'s
Net-It™ Central Finds
Success in ASP Arena
PHOENIX, Ariz.; June 14, 2001 -- Informative
Graphics Corporation proudly announces its Net-It
Central Web-based Document Publishing solution has seen
rapid adoption in the growing Application Service
Provider (ASP) market. This comes in addition to the
nearly 1000 enterprise customers who have already
realized the value of putting Net-It Central to work for
them.
ASPs who have deployed Net-It Central include:
- Bricsnet
- Citadon
- EventConnex
- iBuilders
- VerticalBuilder
- Viewpoint Technologies
Net-It Central provides ASPs and other portals the
ability to let users quickly and easily publish
documents, spreadsheets, presentations and other files
into a viewable, non-editable format without any manual
conversion process. Historically, portals providing
document sharing capability were limited to PDF
conversion or leaving the document in its native format.
Both options present challenges. Leaving a document in
its native format also leaves it open to unauthorized
editing by anyone allowed access to the document, not to
mention the requirement to have the same version of the
authoring application already installed on the desktop.
Translating to PDF, while eliminating some of the
editing concerns, still involves a conversion process,
requires the installation of a plug-in on the end user
desktop, and can't deliver large documents quickly in
the Web environment.
Net-It Central solves these challenges by dynamically
converting these documents into jDocs files. jDocs files
are viewable, navigable and searchable from inside any
browser - on any client desktop - via a small Java
applet requiring no plug-in or other software to be
installed.
The ASP community has been particularly receptive to
Net-It Central's plug-in-free functionality. "It was a
very simple decision to make between PDF and jDocs,"
said Jim Braun, Viewpoint Technologies Vice President.
"In fact, a lot of our clients have a large collection
of PDFs they publish using jDocs. One of our clients, a
municipality, has a large collection of files they want
to make available. The fact that it loads and you get
the first page and then click `Next' and get the second
is a real benefit. Using traditional PDF, by the time
you load their plug in and get the whole file
transferred, there's definitely a performance benefit
with jDocs," Braun said.
"If you force a client to use just PDF, everybody has to
run it through the reader. If you use jDocs, you can run
anything you can print. You're not loading a plug in;
you're loading the pages one by one, and you can search
across all the different document types," said Braun.
Viewpoint Technologies specializes in a total approach
to website creation. As part of their process, Viewpoint
Technologies personnel work closely with customers to
determine goals, choose components, design databases,
develop and deploy sites to help clients expand their
reach in the global marketplace. Viewpoint Technologies'
tools make it easy to maintain a professional appearance
in the ever-changing climate of the World Wide Web.
The fact that Net-It Central views files without the
need to have native applications resident on the desktop
offers several benefits to ASP organizations. These
benefits include eliminating the need to maintain
current versions of applications and concerns about
transferring large files across the intranet or the Web.
"In the case of trying to use a native application,
there's a file size issue," he added. "If someone is
using a native file, for example, sizes can be a huge
issue. We had a client with a 22 megabyte PowerPoint
presentation, and when he uploaded it to jDocs, it
compressed it to a much smaller and more manageable
size. You don't get the speed and transferability with a
native application like Word, Excel or PowerPoint that
you do if you use jDocs. For people on low bandwidth
connections especially, there's no other option. To take
a 22 megabyte presentation and transfer that over a low
bandwidth line just isn't possible. jDocs really does a
better job of getting the information to you as quickly
as possible."
"Net-It Central was created for the online environment,
and it has been incredibly well-received in the
organizations that have deployed it." said Gary Heath,
Informative Graphics® CEO and President. "ASPs need a
way to let their users publish their information to
their sites without requiring the same native
application on everyone's site and without specialty
plug-ins that not everyone may want installed on their
systems. Net-it Central lets users view their files,
with complete fidelity, inside the browser. It's an
ideal solution for ASPs."
